ANC Must Pay Attention to Sutcliffe

06 June 2013

The IFP has urged the KwaZulu-Natal ANC to heed Dr Mike Sutcliffe’s utterances to the effect that the Manase Report was a waste of the tax-payers’ money. The IFP was reacting to Dr Sutcliffe’s statement in Monday’s Mercury where he rubbished the Manase Report and further urged for an independent review to see how eThekwini Municipality can recover monies used for the Manase Commission. IFP’s Deputy National Spokesperson Joshua Mazibuko said:

“The IFP noted with interest the statement attributed to the former City Manager of eThekwini Municipality, Dr Mike Sutcliffe, in which he rubbished the Manase Report as a waste of tax-payers’ money. We may not agree politically with Dr Sutcliffe. However we respect him as a seasoned Official. We therefore do not believe that his utterances can just be trivialised. For him to castigate a process for which rate-payers paid millions must be serious. Indeed there must be more to it than meets the eye. This reminds us also that once upon a time, eThekwini Municipality commissioned a Ngubane &  Associates investigation which has never seen the light of day.

“We believe the KwaZulu-Natal ANC leadership cannot ignore Dr Sutcliffe’s utterances. It is time they intervened for, correctly analysed, Dr Sutcliffe suggests that there is malaise in the eThekwini Municipality.

“And lastly, this is even more reason why this report must be released to the public in full.”
