The President Should Fire Minister Tina Joemaat-Petterson

06 December 2013

Following findings by the Public Protector that the awarding of an R800m tender for fisheries patrol services to the Sekunjalo Marine Service Consortium (SMSC) was irregular, IFP spokesperson on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Inkosi Russel Cebekhulu MP said, “I fully concur with the Public Protector that the President should institute disciplinary measures on minister Tina Joemaat-Pettersson. The president should fire the minister. She has failed the department and the nation in regards to the gross awarding of the multi-million Rand tender to Sekunjalo Marine Service Consortium.”

Cebekhulu added, “This does not only affect fisheries, it also affects the mass mechanisation of tractors. The distribution and maintenance of the tractors is poorly administered – resulting in rural communities failing to plough the land.”

The IFP urges the president to fire the minister as she has dismally failed in her duties.
