Table Mountain Requires More Policing

09 April 2013

The IFP calls on the City of Cape Town to urgently deploy more night patrol teams at the Table Mountain Nature Reserve following the rape of a Norwegian student on Signal Hill.

IFP Spokesperson on Tourism, Ms Connie Zikalala, MP, said, "Table Mountain is a high volume tourist destination and as such requires greater policing. There have been numerous incidents of crime reported on Table Mountain of which local police are aware but very little has happened to improve the safety of our visitors."

"The City of Cape Town and the Table Mountain National Parks must work together in ensuring that visitor safety in the Table Mountain area is improved," said Zikalala.

"The IFP calls on the police to act swiftly in investigating crimes reported on Table Mountain. The public must also be informed about the greater risks of visiting the mountain at night," she concluded.
