Harsh Punishment Needed for the Woman Who Beat School Girl

10 October 2013

The IFP Women's Brigade calls for the immediate arrest of the woman accused of beating up a school girl, whom she accused of dating her boyfriend in Nquthu, Kwazulu-Natal.

IFP Women's Brigade Chairperson, Mrs Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa stated that "The police must ensure that this cruel woman is arrested. We condemn her actions in the strongest terms. Hitting the school girl 100 times with a sjambok was uncalled for and there is no place for such people in our society. Even those who stood by and filmed the incident must be arrested, because they also encourage such incidents"

KaMadlopha-Mthethwa further stated that "The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for social development must make sure that social workers visit the family of the girl and provide the necessary counselling. The girl is not able to attend school due to this incident, which is concerning because this could have far-reaching consequences that affect her future"
