Medical Malpractice Lawsuits Are Crippling The Health System

13 May 2013

IFP Spokesperson on Health, Mrs Hilda Msweli, MP, said "The increased number of claims for medical negligence is crippling the state of millions of Rands which could have been used in improving the healthcare systems in our rural communities. We attribute this increase to a lack of leadership in hospital management. There is currently little or no oversight on doctors and interns. This must be urgently addressed."

"We also call for immediate intervention by the National Minister of Health in the provision of health leadership and management training to all public hospitals management. There is also a dire need for improvement in strategic support, and other operational issues at our hospitals," concluded Msweli.
