Turnaround Strategy Needed for New NYDA Board

22 March 2013

The IFP Youth Brigade (IFPYB) welcomes the appointment of the new NYDA Board by President Zuma, and we wish them well in their responsibility of overseeing the NYDA.

IFPYB National Chairperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa said; "The first responsibility of the new board is to come up with a turnaround strategy in the management of NYDA funds. The abuse of public funds by the NYDA is simply not acceptable.  In 2010 the NYDA spent R100 million on the unsuccessful World Festival of Youth and Students, which can NEVER be repeated."

"The NYDA needs to expand its programmes to rural areas where millions of young people are unemployed. They need to contribute positively to job creation by making sure that their resources, products and programmes are easily accessible to rural communities," added Hlengwa.

The IFPYB remains committed to the establishment of a Youth Ministry. We therefore call upon President Jacob Zuma, as a matter of urgency, to apply his mind to this matter," he concluded.
