Urgent Intervention Needed In Bekkersdal Protests

24 October 2013

The Gauteng provincial government needs to intervene in the violent service delivery protest in Bekkersdal.

IFP spokesperson on Human Settlements, MP Petros Sithole said, “The provincial government should listen and act when people raise their concerns and grievances. This will stop them from resorting to violent protests to get government’s attention, which can lead to unnecessary loss of life.”

Sithole continued, “Bekkersdal residents have been pleading with government to put their municipality under administration due to unending mismanagement and maladministration. People are tired of poor service delivery.”

The IFP condemns the violence displayed during this protest and urges residents to exercise their right to protest peacefully without damaging any property nor harming anyone.
