Former KZN Top Cop Must Be Prosecuted

26th September 2013

The IFP calls on the National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega to ensure that Colonel Vincent Mdunge, the former KZN top cop, is prosecuted for working as police spokesperson without a valid Matric certificate. Those senior to him who knew that Mdunge had no formal qualification must also be identified and disciplined.

IFP Spokesperson on Police, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu MP said, “This is shocking because Colonel Vincent Mdunge spoke about crime on a daily basis, while hiding his lack of a Matric certificate. As a police officer he was supposed to lead by example, now he must face the consequences.”

Ndlovu further stated, “A process of qualification verification is long overdue. Those currently employed without proper qualifications need to be identified and prosecuted and should not receive any benefits when they resign from the SAPS.”

The SAPS continues to suffer a great deal of damage to its reputation through the actions of corrupt officials. A foundation of 'correct' policing and an ethos of discipline, integrity and accountability must be inculcated into the force if its image and credibility are ever to be restored.
