Tenders Awarded to Durban Businessman Deebo Mzobe
Must Be Probed

28 May 2013

The IFP calls on the Public Protector to investigate all tenders awarded to Deebo Holdings, which is owned by Durban businessman Deebo Mzobe.

IFP Spokesperson on Human Settlements, Mr Petros Sithole MP said, "Deebo Holdings benefited from tenders worth R24 million in the Mkhondo Municipality for RDP houses. The Public Protector must investigate why the company won the tender and yet ended up subcontracting the job to Rubro Building contractors. Mr Mzobe may have misrepresented his company's capabilities during the tender process and this must be probed."

Deebo Mzobe also holds directorship in twenty-four other active companies.

Sithole added, "Mr Mzobe's directorships in those twenty-four companies must also be investigated, in order to determine whether his friendly relationship with President Zuma has ensured that he receives preferential treatment. In addition, the Hawks must also institute their own investigation into Mzobe's business dealings."
