IFP Condemns Gang Violence in Mitchells Plain

03 December 2013

The IFP condemns the killing of innocent children in gang-related violence. Yesterday, 02 December, in Mitchells Plain a 6-year-old girl was shot dead and a 5-year-old boy injured after gun shots were fired near a Mitchells Plain Park, which also hit an 18-year-old man.

IFP Spokesperson in the Western Cape, Mr Ben Skosana MP said, “We condemn gang violence in the strongest terms, especially when innocent children get killed. It is very sad to see children being victims of gang violence that they are not involved in. We cannot lock our children indoors for fear of them being killed by gangsters. Children need to play with other children; it is part of their childhood. Therefore, we urge Western Cape Provincial Community Safety MEC, Mr Dan Plato in collaboration with the communities, to fight gang violence in the Western Cape.”

The IFP urges community members who have knowledge about those who shot near the Mitchells Pain Park to report them to the police so they can be arrested.

“We send our deepest condolences to Hope van der Merwe’s family in this difficult time of losing their child whom they still hoped to see grow to be an adult. We wish Jaden Dass a speedy recovery,” concluded Skosana.
