The IFP Youth Brigade welcomes the arrest of
former NYDA Board Chairperson and President of the Pan African
Youth Union (PYU), Mr Andile Lungisa on allegations of
defrauding the Department of Arts & Culture of R2.5 million.
Corruption is sweeping through this country
like a wild fire. Every effort should be made to bring those
involved in acts of corruption to book. The high levels of
poverty and inequality are exacerbated by public money going
into private pockets.
We congratulate the Hawks for working
tirelessly around the clock to curb the curse of corruption.
It is our expectation that the investigation
of the Hawks will extend beyond what has been reported and look
into the financial history of the NYDA under Mr Lungisa’s tenure
as board chairperson.
In 2011 the IFPYB lodged a complaint with the
Public Protector to investigate the now infamous R100 million
2010 youth festival extravaganza whilst Mr Lungisa was
chairperson. The Public Protector is yet to conclude her
There is an evident nexus between the
suspension of the NYDA CEO, Mr Steven Ngubeni, and the
activities of Mr Lungisa considering the contents of the NYDA 2012/13 financial report; it would therefore
be a travesty of justice if this was not investigated as well.
Clearly the Hawks and the Public Protector
have their work cut out for them. South Africa should stop breeding
corruption and pursue prosperity.
