IFP
OBJECTS TO EXCLUSION FROM PALESTINIAN OBSERVER TEAM

January 5, 2005

The IFP has today voiced its objection to its exclusion from a delegation which will observe the election of the President of the Palestinian Authority over the weekend.

The National Spokesperson of the IFP Rev Musa Zondi, said: "We strongly object to the exclusion of the IFP, the third largest Party in Parliament from this so-called broad-based delegation which is being despatched to observe the election of the President of the Palestinian Authority."

"Mr Dumisani Sithole who is Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs will lead this delegation and it was reported that his delegation also includes Members of Parliament. Our concern is how were these Members selected", Zondi said.

"We call on the Speaker to put together a properly constituted Parliamentary delegation which includes representatives of opposition Parties in the mission to observe the election of the President of the Palestinian Authority", Zondi said.

He said they were afraid the ANC was using official governmental and Parliamentary structures for party-political ends.
