IFP Sends its Condolences to Families of 8 Mineworkers

06 February 2014

The IFP is saddened by the death of eight mineworkers in Harmony Gold's Doornkop gold mine in Johannesburg. IFP Spokesperson on Labour, Mr Albert Mncwango MP, said, "We are very saddened by this unfortunate incident that has occurred in the gold mine. We send our deepest condolences to the families, who lost their loved ones. We hope that any questions they have pertaining the death of their loves ones will be answered soon."

The IFP urges the mine to speed up its investigation in determining the cause of this incident - so that the Department of Mineral Resources can take further steps against the company in any case of negligence.

"Mine management should always ensure workers' safety underground. We cannot allow our people to die in situations that can be avoided," concluded Mncwango.
