Let Us Support the Chan Games

08 January 2014

The IFP has urged South Africans to support the African Nations Championships (CHAN) kicking off on Sunday, 11 January 2014.

IFP Spokesperson on Sport & Recreation, Mkhuleko Hlengwa MP said; “South Africa is presented with yet another opportunity to showcase its hospitality and boost its tourism sector through these games. Sporting tourism remains an important aspect of job creation and economic growth. All South Africans should rally behind Bafana Bafana and all the visiting countries. Through these games, may we unite Africa.”

The CHAN tournament needs to be fully supported; “because whilst it falls outside the FIFA calendar, the games are important for African football as it showcases African based players and enables Africans and the world to celebrate pure African football,” added Hlengwa.

“The CHAN games have the power to strengthen African unity. At the end of the tournament may the winner be African comradeship, sportsmanship and Ubuntu. The IFP warmly welcomes all African countries and teams participating in CHAN 2014. South African is proudly African; welcome home!,”  he said.

Notwithstanding the criticism being levelled against these games Hlengwa called upon; “All South Africans to actively support all teams in general and Bafana Bafana in particular. We implore South Africans to buy tickets and fill up the stadiums to capacity.”

“May the spirit of African solidarity, goodwill and unity be manifested through CHAN 2014. God bless Africa” Hlengwa concluded.
