MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE
INKATHA FREEDOM PARTY

On the Passing of Mrs Epainette Mbeki

Statement by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi MP
President of the Inkatha Freedom Party

8th June 2014.

On behalf of the Inkatha Freedom Party, I extend condolences to our country's former President, Mr Thabo Mbeki, on the passing of his mother, Mrs Epainette Mbeki. Our thoughts are with the Mbeki family as they come to terms with this great loss.

MaMbeki was a remarkable woman; a freedom fighter in her own right. She often said that her life belonged to the people, and she lived those words every day, sowing into communities and mentoring anyone who sought her advice. Even at a great age, she actively drove upliftment projects and gave her time to others.

My family and I admired her tremendously and are grateful for her selfless generosity towards our country and its struggling people.

We think now of the words of her son, President Thabo Mbeki, during his State of the Nation Address in 2008. He carried a message to the nation from MaMbeki, who was present in the gallery. Through her son, she asked whether we as leaders remain committed to the undertaking we have made that tomorrow will be better than today.

My answer, as a leader of our people, is an unequivocal yes. I remain committed, and for as long as the Lord grants me life I will continue the work of leaders like Ma Epainette Mbeki.

I thank God that as a Believer her every tomorrow will be better, as she receives her good and just reward. May MaMbeki rest in peace.
