STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF MRS FAITH XOLILE GASA

August 8, 2005

The Inkatha Freedom Party mourns the death of Mrs Faith Xolile Gasa who passed away after an illness spanning a few months on Thursday, the 4th August 2005.

The Rev Musa Zondi, Secretary-General and Spokesperson of the IFP said: "We are all gripped by shock at the news of the passing of our beloved colleague and Comrade Faith Xolile Gasa on Thursday afternoon. We are so saddened, especially because it was only in May this year that she buried her husband and for all practical purposes she was still in mourning herself."

"Our hearts go out to her children who today are without any of their parents, and we pray that God sustains them in this their hour of greatest need," Rev Zondi said.

Mrs Gasa has served the IFP in various capacities; as National Chairperson of the Women's Brigade, as a Delegate to Codesa in the early 1990's and as a Member of Parliament from 1994 and later as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Parliament and at one time as Minister of Education and Culture.

"She would be sorely missed by her Comrades where she was always bubbling with enthusiasm and energy."

"We honour this great daughter of the soil even as she lays down her tools to build a new South Africa, we shall always remember her for her contribution to make this, our country, a better place under the sun," Rev Zondi concluded.
