UNNECESSARY TENSION BETWEEN SCORPIONS AND POLICE

Durban: February 9, 2005

In response to the tensions between the Scorpions and the Police Services, IFP spokesperson on Safety and Security, Mr VB Ndlovu MP, said that the whole issue is unnecessary.

“It was made to understand that the Scorpions will be handling high profile cases, including international cases, as well as cases referred to them by the President.

“There should be a clear line between cases handled by police and those investigated by the Scorpions. The Scorpions should stick to the procedure of investigation and submit dockets to the prosecution authority for prosecution to take its course."

“There is no need whatsoever, for quarrelling for power because the police has its own duty to fulfil which is different from the Directorate of Special Investigations (Scorpions). Therefore, the heads of these two sections must have a record of understanding of whatever they are doing in order to promote justice without prejudice in this country,” he said.
