The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has called on the ANC
Provincial Secretary, Sihle Zikalala to desist from "peddling
malicious statements" that the IFP local government by-election
candidate in Newcastle, Thanduyise Mkhwanazi has died.
"We are perturbed as, whilst attempting to
lambast the IFP over ‘irresponsible claims’, in the same breath
Mr Zikalala announces the death of IFP candidate Mr Mkhwanazi.
To set the record straight regarding Mr Zikalala’s
vitriolic response to my statement I again reiterate - it would
APPEAR that the attack on Mr Mkhwanazi is politically motivated
and it must be speedily investigated to ensure a peaceful
by-election in Newcastle,” Mr Gwala said.
“In the interest of peaceful and constructive
political discourse it is suggested that responsible leaders
first read what someone says and secondly verify their facts
before making half-cocked statements. Unsubstantiated claims
made by irresponsible leaders are not only baseless but reckless
and dangerous as they have a potential to create unnecessary
tensions between IFP members and other political parties,”
continued Mr Gwala.
“We demand that the ANC’s Mr Zikalala withdraw
his statement and apologise to the Mkhwanazi family. These
comments by Mr Zikalala are insensitive to the family of Mr
Mkhwanazi who are still traumatised by the brutal attack on
him," Mr Gwala concluded.
Mr Blessed Gwala, IFP National
