MURDER OF CAMPAIGN MANAGER MICHAEL
IFP CONCERNED BY-ELECTION WILL NOT BE FREE AND FAIR
May 11, 2005
The IFP's KwaZulu-Natal
Deputy-Spokesperson, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu, today condemned the
murder of Mr Michael Mbambo at about 15h00 yesterday afternoon.
Michael Mbambo was the campaign manager for Simon Thabethe in a
by-election taking place in Ward 7 in KwaDukuza today.
Mr Ndlovu said:
"A campaign of intimidation, in which
IFP posters have been removed has finally culminated in the
murder of Mr Michael Mambo who was serving as the campaign
manager of a by-election taking place today in KwaDukuza.
Michael Mbambo was very active in the campaign. It is therefore
hard to imagine that his murder was not politically
"The impact that this cowardly deed
will have on the by-election today is far reaching. People will
be afraid to go out and vote, thereby declaring this election
unfree and unfair before it even begins."
"The IFP expresses its sincere
condolences to the family of Michael Mbambo. May God comfort and
give them peace. We also express our condolences to Simon
Thabethe. The IFP calls on the police to act quickly to arrest
the perpetrators of this murder."
"We urge all the people in this
by-election to go out and vote in order to honour the memory of
Michael Mbambo by winning this ward."
