IFP Welcomes Suspension of Murder Accused Officials

14 April 2014.

The IFP has today called for urgent steps to be taken against an ANC Councillor and Principal of a High School, who has been arrested on charges of murder.

"The Umzumbe Municipal ANC Ward Councillor, Mr Mhlengi Luthuli, who is also the Principal of Bonguzwane High School, must be removed immediately from his position as Councillor after his arrest for allegedly being involved in the murder of the former principal of Nyonemhlophe High School," said IFP Spokesperson on Education, Mr Mntomuhle Khawula.

Luthuli and his two co-accused have been suspended by the Department of Education.

"We are very perturbed that the very people who are supposed to be role models for our children are the ones who stand accused of allegedly killing other people. The most embarrassing thing is that even the District Manager is involved in this issue. This is a disgrace for the education profession. It speaks to the rot within the ruling party. It is also a well-known fact that this Principal was appointed to his position because of Cadre-deployment," said Khawula.

The IFP calls on the ANC to follow the Department of Educationís lead by urgently removing its municipal councillor. Surely, someone accused of murder cannot be retained as a community leader.
