Auditor General’s Findings Not Surprising

14 August 2013

The IFP is not at all surprised by the findings of the Auditor General on the poor performance of our municipalities.

IFP Spokesperson on Auditor General, Mr Narend Singh MP said, “It is no surprise, but extremely concerning that out of 278 municipalities, only 17 received clean audits. Government should be ashamed that none of the 8 metros received a clean audit. This is largely due to incompetent people that are employed into positions for which they do not have the requisite skills or knowledge base. They can only but fail in their duties. The late former Minister Sicelo Shiceka on behalf of government announced a clean audit campaign. This was clearly just more ‘empty’ ANC rhetoric.

Singh continued, “The regression in KwaZulu Natal is not surprising as well because of notable poor service delivery in many of the municipalities in the Province. The ANC-led municipalities boast of service delivery at the expense of poor financial management. The residents need to constantly question the efficiency of the administration in these municipalities as they are the ones at the receiving end of this poor service delivery and fruitless and wasteful expenditure of ‘ratepayers’ money.”
