IFP Urges Gauteng Premier and Minister of Health to Intervene
in Student Nurses Strike

16 January 2013

The IFP calls on the Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi to urgently intervene in the Chris Hani Baragwanath Nursing College strike where students are demanding the removal of three Heads of Department at the college.

IFP Spokesperson on Health, Mrs Hilda Msweli MP, said "The Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane and Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi must urgently intervene in this situation as it deals with a scarce skill programme in which no delays can be tolerated. Our country needs more nurses. We are already facing a challenge of filling many vacant nursing posts. This strike must not be allowed to add to this problem and must therefore be resolved urgently."

"The IFP re-iterates its call for all parties involved in this matter to resolve their respective points of contention and find amicable resolution to this impasse," said Msweli.
