April 18, 2005

IFP KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Spokesperson Mr Velaphi Ndlovu expressed the Party's shock at the murder of IFP KwaMbonambi Mayor Pheneas Dumokwakhe 'Siqomu' Mthethwa and his wife Carol in an attack on their farm in Ntambanana yesterday.

Mr Ndlovu said,

"We deeply mourn the murder of Mayor Mthethwa and his wife and we pass our condolences and offer our support to the family during this time of shock and bereavement."

"The Party has lost an important leader and a friend and it is shocking that such a senseless attack can happen as we are preparing for the local government elections in which the Mayor was an integral part of the preparations."

"The Party is at present unable to comment on the motives of the attack and we have requested the district chairperson Mr BV Mthethwa to investigate and report to us as soon as he as completed his investigation."

"We will also be closely following the police investigation into the attack and offer our full support in determining the reason for the attack and bringing the culprits to book."
