Nkandla Report A Roadmap of Corruption

19 March 2014.

"The Nkandla report is a great roadmap of the extent to which government officials, those around the president and even the president himself have gone to try and hide their deeds. Though it needs detailed study, it is clear that the president is directly implicated in the lavish constructions on his homestead" said IFP Secretary-General Ms. Sibongile Nkomo.

"Neighbours were relocated at the expense of government illegally; other people were fired for questioning the amounts spent, while the president denied any involvement at any level - clearly contradicted by this report"

The report directly contradicts the inter-ministerial report released by the security cluster last year.

"The inter-ministerial report was compiled by those who are dependent on the president for their employment and they clearly would not give a negative perception to the public about the president. The initial amount of R27 million ended up being R250 million - such inflation is unprecedented.

This report also vindicates the many media publications on the amounts spent on the upgrades and also shows the need to stop the Protection of State Information bill, because this report would not have seen the light of day if it was up to the government" said Nkomo

The IFP calls for immediate action to be taken on this report especially against President Zuma's architect, Minenhle Makhanya, who was overseeing the whole project and who provided designs that inflated the price of construction. The president must also not escape the consequences of his decisions.

"The report definitely gives clear grounds for impeachment. Former president Mbeki was recalled on lesser charges" said Nkomo.
