Time Frames Must Be Provided on
Refurbishment of Kempton Park Hospital

20 May 2013

The IFP calls on the Gauteng Department of Health to urgently provide time frames concerning the refurbishment of Kempton Park Hospital, which was abandoned in 1996.

IFP Spokesperson on Health Mrs Hilda Msweli, MP, said, "There remain many unanswered questions regarding this issue. The Department must advise on the total costs to repair this hospital, as well as the time frames involved.

Security costs incurred in respect of guarding the premises to date must also be declared as there are numerous allegations of irregularities. There are also reports of people using the premises for illegal gatherings after having paid bribes to Imvula Quality Protection security officers. This too must be investigated."

"This hospital should be open and serving our citizenry," concluded Msweli.

The IFP calls on the MEC for Health in Gauteng, to ensure that Kempton Park Hospital is refurbished as soon as possible. Furthermore, we call for a full investigation into all contracts that Imvula Quality Protection Company holds with government in respect of the guarding of hospital premises.
