Fake Police Officers Must Be Removed Immediately

20 August 2013

The IFP calls on the National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega, to urgently investigate why convicted drug dealer Panganathan “Timmy” Marimuthu and his family are still on the police payroll almost two years after their dubious appointments as crime intelligence agents were uncovered.

IFP Spokesperson on Police, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu, MP, said, “The fact that two years have passed and this family is still being paid salaries evidences corruption at its highest. Since they were implicated in corrupt activities linked to former crime intelligence head, Richard Mdluli and the former chief financial officer, Solly Lazarus, the Marimuthu family should not only be removed from their posts, but also be ordered to pay back all the money they have received over the past two years.”

It is clear that there are others linked to this issue who authorised these payments – they must also be exposed, charged and arrested for their part in paying these salaries illegally.

Ndlovu further stated, “As the IFP we reiterate our call to the police Minister and the Commissioner that the recruitment policy of the SAPS must be urgently reviewed. The SAPS cannot be a nest for criminals masking as police officers to escape justice.”
