MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE
INKATHA FREEDOM PARTY

We Were Promised A Better Life for All

22 January 2014

"Today, I visited Bram Fischer where 14 shacks were burnt down and one person was killed in fire. This is due to the total failure by the ANC-led government to provide people with houses, which they were promised under the slogan "a better life for all". The ANC government promised people that by 2014 they will eradicate informal settlements, which has proved impossible to do. This means the ANC has lied to the people" said IFP spokesperson on Human Settlements MP Petros Sithole.

The IFP questioned the ANC about the "better life for all" slogan it used to promise people houses for votes. Many people live in shacks and are exposed to life threatening situations.

Sithole further stated that "Our concern is not only focused in Gauteng, but it is also extends to other provinces where shack dwellers always lose their lives in fires. The time has come for people to change the way they vote, as the ANC-led government has failed them concerning RDP houses." said Sithole.

The Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Ntombi Mekgwe must urgently spearhead the drive to ensure that RDP houses are provided for the residents of Bram Fischer.
