Princess Park Residents Must Be Heard

22 January 2014

"Provincial governments should listen and act when their citizens express their concerns and their dissatisfaction with the lack of service delivery. This will stop them from resorting to violent protests to get government's attention, which can lead to the unnecessary loss of life" said IFP spokesperson on Human Settlements MP Petros Sithole.

This is due to the week-long service delivery protests that Princess Park residents have been staging, demanding houses.

Sithole further stated that "We don't want to experience the same situation that happened in Mothutlung and Bekkersdal, where people lost their lives and government institutions were burned down. The Gauteng MEC for human settlements must urgently spearhead the drive to ensure that RDP houses are provided for the residents of Princess Park" said Sithole.

The IFP hopes that the Gauteng provincial government will address this issue as soon as possible. However, delivering these houses should not be used as an election ploy as the residents have shown by their strike action that they have had enough of unfulfilled promises by the government.
