Limpopo A Hopeless Case, IFP Agrees with SAMWU

28 March 2013

The IFP has raised its grave concern about the failure by the ANC led- government to root out corruption in many municipalities in Limpopo Province, mainly, Greater Letaba, Blouberg and Mopani District Municipality.

"That corruption is endemic in SA's local government system is a given, and is one of the key reasons local government enjoys so little public confidence", says IFP Local government spokesperson Peter Smith. "But you know the situation is really serious when SAMWU issues the type of public statement it has condemning corruption in Limpopo, asking whether the situation will ever be addressed by the ruling party."

"The IFP believes the ANC's public commitment to cleaning up corrupt local government cannot be taken seriously. The ruling party has an excellent track record in making the right noises to mollify an outraged general public but the worst record in actually putting its money where its mouth is. Only when the ANC starts holding its leadership accountable will the situation change. Unfortunately, there is seemingly no urgency to do so", claimed Smith.

The IFP calls on the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela and the MEC for Local Government in Limpopo to urgently investigate these claims.
