IFP CELEBRATES VICTORIES IN KWAZULU-NATAL BY-ELECTIONS

July 28, 2005

The IFP celebrated its victories in the two by-elections held in KwaZulu-Natal on 27 July 2005. The IFP won Abaqulusi Ward 18 and Ingwe Ward 1.

IFP National Organiser, Mr Albert Mncwango stated that:

"These results are another confirmation of our support and the commitment of our voters to our Party and its practical programmes to improve the quality of lives and services in communities."

"In both by-elections the IFP have thrashed its main opposition, the ANC, by winning Abaqulusi Ward 18 with 64,5% of the votes and in Ingwe Ward 1 with 60% of the votes."

"These latest by-election results have also boosted our confidence in our preparations for the upcoming local government elections and is yet another thump on the nose for doomsayers who can only prophesise a one-party system."

"We congratulate our candidates on their victories and we wish to thank the voters in these wards for their support. We will also expect these newly elected councillors to continue the IFP's programme of service and delivery in local government."
