Award Given to KZN Head of Treasury Raises Concerns

29 July 2014.

The IFP in the KwaZulu Natal Legislature has raised its grave concerns about the recent award which was presented to Mr Simiso Magagula, the Head of Department of Finance as the best head of department for 2014 in the KZN Premier's service excellence awards.

"We are very perturbed about the award given to the head of department in view of the recent proclamation by President Jacob Zuma authorising the Special Investigating Unit to probe the mismanagement of finances in the province. This begs a question of how such people can be rewarded while there is an investigation in their department," said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala.

"The well-being of the state depends on the proper administration of every department; and justice demands that wrongful acts must be judged and punished. Reward the good and punish the guilty," continued Mr Gwala.

"Corrupt officials in any department are guilty of robbing the people of the province of services that are due to them. We cannot tolerate the abuse of public funds by officials no matter what position they hold. The SIU must complete its investigation without interference and anyone found guilty must be punished in the full extent of the law," concluded Mr Gwala.
