29 July 2014.
Eid Al-Fitr is celebrated this year in
tremendously painful circumstances. We in the IFP extend our
support to Muslims everywhere who feel the burden of the
conflict in the Middle East and are praying for peace.
As the month of Ramadan ended and the feast of
Eid began, we realise that the sense of festivity and joy that
usually accompanies this time of year is tempered with concern
over what is happening in Palestine.
The IFP encourages Muslim families across
South Africa to embrace the spirit of peace that Eid ushers in
and to celebrate forgiveness and reconciliation. We believe that
violence should never be used to resolve conflict. The greatest
hope for peace is for each one of us to promote negotiation and
reconciliation, modelling this to our children, particularly
during times such as Eid.
The IFP wishes all Muslims, both within our
Party and throughout the world, a blessed Eid Al-Fitr. May peace
descend upon us all.
