31 December 2013
This year drew to a close on a sad note, as
our nation bid farewell to former President Nelson Mandela. It
was painful to witness the grief of so many South Africans. Yet
it was also inspiring to see us drawn together in celebration of
a legacy of reconciliation, forgiveness and peace.
These values are needed in our present South
Africa, and in the South Africa we will create in 2014 through
another democratic election. Sadly, our country has seen the
demise of many sound values over the past few years, including
integrity in leadership.
2014 offers us an opportunity to restore to
South Africa all the best qualities of our past, and ensure that
our future sees the fulfilment of our greatest hopes. The coming
year will be decisive for South Africa.
The power to change our country will be in the
hands of the electorate.
As we stand on the threshold of 2014, I
encourage us all to hope, and to put our hope into action.
On behalf of the Inkatha Freedom Party, I wish
all of South Africa a happy new year.
