Members' Statement
IFP Welcomes New ID Verification Platform
By Ms Helen Makhuba MP

National Assembly: Cape Town, 09 November 2011

Honourable Speaker:

The Inkatha Freedom Party congratulates the Department of Home Affairs with its recent launch of an ID verification platform in partnership with the SA Banking Risk Information Centre.

This initiative which was launched yesterday will allow banks access to the home affairs national identification system (Hanis) enabling them to verify information given by clients with the Department of Home Affairs. We are certain that this initiative will go a long way in reducing identity related fraud, theft and corruption and as such is both very necessary and very welcome by the IFP.

Furthermore, it is an indication of the high level of confidence placed by our private banking institutions upon the Department and for that both the Minister and Department must be applauded.

I thank you.
